After a hard fought campaign I want to give thanks to all those involved.
First the returning officer, polling clerk’s and those working through the night to get the result in. Democracy is a pillar of our great nation and it was honoured again tonight. We should never take it for granted.
I also want to give huge thanks to my Sheffield South East campaign team. It’s impossible to run a campaign on your own and without them this simply would not have happened.
Turning to the result I am again deeply thankful for those that put their faith in me to represent them. It’s that trust that drives me to serve our communities and I will ensure it remains at the heart of the work I do.
Sheffield South East is my home and it remains an absolute honour to represent it in Westminster and work with its communities to improve lives.
With a Labour Government and clear mandate we can now do that in a way that hasn’t happened in 14 years.
This work will not be easy. We must begin today with urgency. It will take time, but under this government we can fix the deep rooted problems in our country.
Keir Starmer will put service back at the heart of our politics and we will work night and day to ensure we can rebuild this great country.
I look forward to the next five years, and am hopeful for our future. We can and will succeed and restore faith in politics to deliver for everyone.
