Sajid Ghafur represents Darnall ward; he is eager to keep up his consistent strive for his local area.

Sajid was born in Sheffield, Darnall to be specific. He has lived in Darnall all his life and has been an active member of the Labour Party for 20+ years. He joined this party on the basis of the values aligning with his: ‘I want to be involved in restoring economic stability, getting the NHS back on its feet, fighting for social justice, fairness and equality, a broader educational curriculum and reducing energy bills amidst this cost-of-living crisis’.

He is a self-employed taxi driver, who’s been committed to his job for several years, aiding individuals in their day to day lives to reach their destinations promptly. Sajid has experienced and undergone struggle, in which he can relate to others. ‘I am very fortunate to live in Sheffield. I want to help people in any possible way I can, to at least make their lives better for themselves and their families.’

Outside of his work, Sajid enjoys spending time with his family, he is happily married, with three daughters. He enjoys watching various films with them, alongside watching football. He is a big cat lover – having three pet cats.

He has been involved in several community organisations: he is the chairperson of the Darnall ward Labour party and the chairperson of Littledale, Bowden Wood and Halsall tenants and residents’ association. He is a trustee of the Darnall area trust fund and works very closely with other community centres and faith groups. Additionally, he has been a governor at local schools.

Sajid is a very friendly and caring individual; he is easily reachable and accessible and is constantly willing to listen to people and to help them. He wants to make positive differences in people’s lives.

‘I deeply understand what difficulties and problems we are facing as a community; hence I want to serve to improve each individual’s life’, Sajid said.

Sajid conveyed, ‘Through this journey, there will be challenges and obstacles we will face, in which we will tackle openly’.

‘I am passionate to work with a Labour council to reduce energy bills, to build more council homes, to invest in more jobs, to cut NHS waiting times, to deliver more neighbourhood police, to create more apprenticeships and to continue working towards a cleaner city’.

‘Ultimately, I want to actively achieve such goals, to see our communities flourish and prosper’.

‘My hopes are that we achieve a Labour council and a Labour government, in order to restore and build stronger communities, and to successfully bring these missions to reality!’
