Dear Constituents
I wanted to put this together to give you all a flavour of what I have been doing recently as your Councillor. It is something that I want to do on a regular basis. If you have seen my Facebook page, you will see that am very active. Casework is a large part of my work along with visiting community groups and coffee mornings, work in the community and representing you at the Council.
I spent the morning recently, with housing officers and people from the repairs service looking at the state of the flats at Westfield. Communal doors are being damaged on a regular basis and the walkways need some TLC but plans are now in place for this.
I have recently been made aware that the number 50 bus from Chesterfield to Sheffield has stopped running along Windmill Greenway. Along with our MP Clive Betts we have raised our concerns with the operator Stagecoach. Whilst I appreciate that Stagecoach is a commercial operator, the changes are totally unacceptable and I will push for its reinstatement and for bus franchising, bringing buses back under local authority control so that we get a better service in Mosborough.
20 MPH has been rolling out on estate roads across the City and I have been pushing for this in Waterthorpe and Westfield. It has now been introduced in Waterthorpe and I understand Westfield will be completed by the end of November.
I have recently raised concerns with the Council regarding the state of the open spaces around Challoner Green and I am pleased to report that SCC have listened to the concerns and are exploring solutions as to how these communal green spaces can be managed better and maintained in such a way that they look attractive and inviting rather than downtrodden and neglected. We look forward to seeing the difference this will make.
Gas house lane in Mosborough has been the subject of fly tipping in recent weeks the area of concern is in Northeast Derbyshire District Council. This has been reported to me and NEDDC by a vigilant member of the public, this is unacceptable behaviour, and we will continue to monitor this area and report to the relevant authority.
I had the privilege to visit Mosborough Primary School on Friday 24th of November to see the headteacher, staff and pupils and to see all the excellent work that is being done for and by the children in Mosborough. This is an initiative that I am intending to do across all the schools in the Ward. I was amazed at the creativity of these youngsters and how well behaved and polite they were, a credit to the school and their families.
Finally, I am pleased to see the Christmas Tree has been put on Hillside. The friend’s group in the Village have once again excelled in bringing a bit of festive cheer, Mosborough Cllrs have agreed to pay to have it lit again and thanks to our contractors Amey this will be done very soon.
