Clive Betts MP welcomed Boeing’s commitment to Sheffield following the announcement of the Investment Zone for the region saying ‘Boeing are a great American company and now they can be a great Sheffield enterprise’.

Clive Betts MP welcomed Boeing’s commitment to invest in a major research facility at the Sheffield Business Park, putting it at the forefront of sustainable aviation. This will see £80 million of support for Boeing’s innovation in this sector.
The Chancellor has announced South Yorkshire will be the UK’s first investment zone. The Government predicts this will lead to 8,000 new jobs and £1.2 billion of private investment by 2030.

Clive Betts and Richard Caborn have long been working and campaigning for investment in the area in recognition of its unique position in the UK for high tech manufacturing. Since the 90’s the area has received regeneration and redevelopment which now means the area is perfectly positioned to become the first investment zone.

This announcement will be the spark for an influx of businesses and investment in the area that will make South Yorkshire a world leader in advanced manufacturing and research.

Clive Betts MP:
“It is great that the Government are finally recognising the high-tech manufacturing powerhouse that Sheffield and South Yorkshire can be with the right investment. This news that we will be the first investment zone in the UK is incredibly welcome and will help snowball the regions success in its manufacturing with more investment and jobs.
It will also importantly give the region more of a say in wielding this power and expertise so we can best benefit the people of South Yorkshire by those who know it best.

The first round of investment to aid the expansion of Boeing in Sheffield is also a massive boost to our local economy; they are a great American company and now they can be a great Sheffield enterprise at the cutting edge of airplane design and manufacture.

All this points to a massive vote of confidence from private business despite the blistering cuts South Yorkshire has had to cope with over the last 13 years from Government. The city is still at the forefront of manufacturing and ready to lead the country and the world in industry once again.

So much work has gone into developing this part of Sheffield, this is the product of decades of work from people who kept the faith. Despite everything we have been put through Sheffield and South Yorkshire have shown that we are capable of the dynamism and innovation to be world leading.”
